The Mount St. Joseph softball team had a phenomenal week of play over the course of the past seven days. As a team they were able to sweep a Wednesday doubleheader over Spalding, winning 7-0 and 12-2 respectively. They would follow that up with a sweep over conference rival Rose-Hulman in their Saturday doubleheader, winning those games 7-1 and 11-3 respectively.
Aside from the great team accomplishments of the past week, two Lions were also recognized for their individual performances.
Paige Kiesewetter (Piqua, OH / Miami East) was named HCAC Pitcher of the Week for the two outstanding performances that she turned in last week. On Wednesday Kiesewetter pitched a complete game shutout against Spalding, surrendering just two hits and striking out eight batters. She followed that performance up with a complete game on Saturday against Rose-Hulman. She worked a complete game in this game as well, allowing just one run in Mount St. Joseph's 7-1 victory over their conference rival.
Savannah Sturgill (West Harrison, IND / East Central) was also recognized, as she was named HCAC Offensive Player of the Week. Sturgill played in all four games last week for the Lions starting at catcher each game. On the week she went 8-15 (.533) and was responsible for 6 RBIs while also scoring 7 runs. Of those eight hits, six of those were for extra bases as she knocked three doubles and three home runs in four total games last week.
The accomplishments of these two Lions over this past week, along with the accomplishments of the rest of their teammates and coaches, have pushed Mount St. Joseph into a tie atop the HCAC with Transylvania at 6-2.
The Lions get back to work on Wednesday with another important conference doubleheader at home against Bluffton. Game one begins at 4:00 PM with game two coming directly after the conclusion of the first game.
