Lions drop a pair of games against Denison

The Lions hosted the Big Red of Denison on Thursday afternoon in a doubleheader.  This was Mount St. Joseph's first action since their return from their annual trip to Florida for spring break.

GAME ONE

Mount St. Joseph would send Paige Kiesewetter (Piqua, OH / Miami East) to the circle to face off against the Big Red.  She would not have her best stuff on Thursday as Denison was able to get to her early.  The Big Red were able to put up two runs in the first inning on a two-run home run and then follow that up with two more runs in the third.

Mount St. Joseph was able to crack the scoreboard with a run of their own in the bottom half of the third inning, making the score 4-1.

Denison would explode in the following inning.  The Big Red would put up seven runs in the top half of the fourth inning, essentially putting the game out of reach.  Kiesewetter would exit in this inning with her final statline being three and one-thirds innings pitched, allowing eight hits, and seven runs with five of those being earned.

The Lions would not score again and Denison would add on.  The game would be called at the conclusion of the fifth inning, with Denison taking game one, 13-1.

GAME TWO

Danielle Nichelson (Glencoe, KY / Gallantin) would be sent to the circle to see if she could slow down the Big Red attack in game two.  She would be able to slow them down, but the Lions could not stop Denison.

The game started slow, with both teams being scoreless through the first two innings of play.  Then Denison was able to break the game open, scoring three runs in back-to-back innings in the third and fourth with the Lions adding one of their own in the third.

Mount St. Joseph looked like they might climb back into the game in the fifth, scoring a run and leaving one more runner on base before being retired.  However, Denison would get that run back in the top of the sixth and that would be the last run scored by either team.  The Big Red would go on to take game two of the doubleheader by the score of 7-2.
