CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Lions opened up their 2019 season with a home match against #11 Stevenson University. Prior to the match, the team recognized Dave Holt, father of Ben Holt, and his contributions to our community by serving as a firefighter/paramedic for the past 33 years. The Lions weren't able to gain any momentum in throughout the match but fought until the final moments. Without any momentum in the final points, the Lions dropped the match 3-0.
The Lions started the first set off at a deficit due to multiple errors. The Mustangs were able to build on their lead throughout the set but the Lions would make a run late in the set. Down 24-15 the Lions went on a four point run but after a Stevenson timeout the Mustangs put the set away, 25-19. The Lions opened up the second set down 0-3 but quickly made a comeback to keep the score within two points. The Mount battled but Stevenson went on a 10-3 run that would close out the second set 25-15. The third set told much of the same story and the Lions weren't able to gain any momentum. Stevenson capitalized on the Lions errors to take the victory in three straight sets with a final set score of 25-15.
Darrell Swanson (Las Vegas, NV / Arbor View) and Jason Hascher (Miamisburg, OH / Alter) led the team on offense and defense for the night. Swanson had five kills and eight digs while Hascher had seven kills and six digs.
