Lions women finish third, men finish fourth at DePauw Small College Invitational

GREENCASTLE, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph University track and field team traveled to Greencastle, Indiana to take part in the Depauw University Small College Invitational on Friday. The Lions set numerous personal and school records on the day enroute to a third place team finish on the women's side and a fourth place finish on the men's side. 

On the men's side senior Drew Stark (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) took back his school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.77, taking back a record of his that was broken a week ago by Arvonte Neal (Florence, Az./Florence). Stark's run was good for second in the 60 meter hurdles event, he also finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.41. Tre'on Taylor (Orlando, Fl./Winter Park) finished in second place in the 60m dash with a time of 7.22 seconds, and was a part of the Lions second place finish in the 4x400 relay. On the relay Taylor was joined by Neal, Isaiah Hale (Crestwood, Ky./Oldham Co.) and Cameron Willis (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle), the team finished the race in 1:36.31 seconds. Willis was able to win the high-jump for the second weekend in a row, he also finished third in the long jump. The Mount also took the win in the 4x4000 Distance Medley Relay, the team consisted of Matthew Bruner (Dillsboro, In./South Dearborn), Sean Stevie (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle), Ben Gray (Napolean, Ohio/Pettisville) and Luke Danis (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Carroll). 

On the women's side the team finished third overall on the strength of two new school records and a trio of individual champions. Anna Schoster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) set a new school record in the pole vault competition with a height of 3.51 meters. That new school record secured the individual win for Schoster, she also finished second in the 60 meter hurdles event. Kiersten Lux (Waldron, In./Waldron) broke the school record in the weight throw with a distance of 13.92 meters, which was also good for first place. Emma Roth (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West) was the other individual champion for the Lions. Roth took the win in the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:29.67. Andi Meyer (Ft. Loramie, Ohio/Ft. Loramie) finished second in the high jump and third in the pole vault. Maria Waters (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy) finished sixth in the mile run, registering a time of 5:57.42. Waters was also a part of the Lions third place finish in the 4x4000 meter distance medley relay, she was joined by Ashley Klosterman (Celina, Ohio/Celina), Jamie Lenart (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy), and Emily Salmons (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison). The Mount also finished third in the 4x200 with a team of Schoster, Meyer, Ashley Lewis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) and Julia Cason (Cincinnati, Ohio/McCauley). 

 

The Lions will look to continue this run of success as they prepare for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, which will take place at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio on February 16th.
