Lions Secure First Win of the Season Against UC Clermont

Location: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, OH)

The Basics:

The Lions host the cougars of UC Clermont at Schueler Field in a Sunday afternoon match-up.  The first half came to a close with the Mount having their first lead of the season with a score of 3-0. The Lions were able to keep the lead until the game ended with a final score of 5-3.

How it Happened:

The Lions went on attack early hungry for their first win of the season. First to score for the Lions was Seth Freppon (Cold Springs, KY/ Newport Central Catholic) assisted by Joshua Bailey (Winchester, KY/ George Rogers Clark). That wasn't enough for the Mount they had to make it an even pair for Freppon this time with the asist from Justin Ives (Florence, KY/ St. Henry). The Cougars fought through the first half but the Lions held them off taking the lead to three going into half time.

At the start of the second half UC Clermont came out with a quick goal to make the score gap smaller by one. It was a deja vu moment on Schueler Field where the Cougars doubled their goals as quickly as the Mount took the lead at the beginning of the game bringing the score closer to 3-2. Freppon and Ives answered right back with another dream making connection to bring the lead back to two goals.  The time was running down on the clock when Austin Masters (Cincinnati, OH/ Northwest) found the back of the net snatching his first goal on the 2018-2019 season.  The Cougars were able to sneak one more in before the final buzzer rang. With the final score of 5-3 the Lions secured their first win of the season!

Standouts:

Senior and captain Freppon leading the Lions offense with three goals alongside fellow senior captain Masters with the final goal for the Lions. Sophomore Ives and freshman Bailey both with major assists today that played an instrumental role in getting the Lions off on a strong foot.
