In the second match of a double header your Lions take on the visiting Quakers of Earlham College. The match was a showing of two strong defenses as neither team was able to find the goal early. The Lions were able to strike first late in the first to take the lead but Earlham countered quickly after the half. With both teams unable to score in regulations they found themselves going into overtime. Overtime was a battle but neither team was able to find the net again resulting in a tie 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The match started with great defensive efforts from both teams, neither able to make a strong play on the ball. The Lions were able to strike first late in the first half with a goal by Seth Freppon (Cold Spring, KY / Newport Central Catholic) assisted by Justin Ives (Florence, KY / St. Henry) in the 33rd minute. The Lions continued to play outstanding defense to lead them into the half ahead 1-0. The Lions controlled the tempo early in the second half with constant shots on Earlham's goal. Shortly after the Quakers were able to find the back of the net for the 1-1 equalizer. Both teams fought to take the lead but neither was able to capitalize on their opportunities. At the end of regulation neither team found the goal again going into overtime with the score knotted at one. Both offenses came out firing with multiple shots in the first minutes of overtime but nothing would connect. In the second half of both defenses protected the net very well. Seth Freppon continues his scoring success for the season, finding the net once again for his 7th goal of year. Defenders Michael Huber (New Richmond, OH / New Richmond) and Joseph Glisson (Cincinnati, OH / Anderson) led the Lions defense by controlling Earlham's key players.
The Lions (3-7-3, 0-2-1) take on Bluffton University (1-10, 1-2) in another conference matchup this Wednesday 10/11 at 4PM.
