GREENWOOD, Indiana-- The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference released the men's soccer preseason coaches poll today. The Mount St. Joseph University soccer team was selected by the coaches to finish fourth.
Transylvania University was tabbed as the preseason favorite receiving six of the possible ten first place votes. Defending champion Rose-Hulman finished second in the voting receiving the other four first place votes, Hanover was selected to finish directly above the Lions in third place. The Lions were followed in the poll by Manchester, Earlham, Anderson, Franklin, Defiance and Bluffton respectively.
The Lions will be led by the steady hand of Coach Rudy Argueta who enters his ninth season at the helm. On the field they will be led by HCAC preseason players to watch Seth Freppon (Cold Spring, KY/ Newport Central Catholic), Michael Huber (New Richmond, OH/ New Richmond), Alonzo Garcia Alvarez (Cleves, OH/ Harrison) and goalkeeper Conner Spivey (Florence, KY/ Dixie Heights).
This is the highest the Lions have ever been selected in the preseason poll. Which is fitting seeing as they are coming off of a year where they were picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll, but ended up playing in the HCAC tournament. Should the Lions fulfill the predictions this season they will return to the HCAC tournament for the second season in a row. This promises to be an outstanding season of soccer on the campus of The Mount!
