CINCINNATI, Oh. -- For the third time in six years the Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award for its efforts in the classroom during the 2017-18 season. It was the third time in the six years the NABC has presented the list that the Lions have earned a place on the list.
NABC Team Academic Excellence Award recipients must have an overall team cumulative GPA above 3.0. There were 186 institutions at the NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA levels to reach this benchmark. The Mount is among one of three schools from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on the list.
The Mount compiled a 17-9 overall record in 2017-18 with a 14-4 and claimed their third HCAC regular-season championship in the last 4 seasons. Before failing to eventual HCAC tournament champion Hanover in the conference semi-finals.
The Lions will open the 2018-19 season traveling to take on the Quakers of Wilmington College on November 12th.
