The Lions were ready to play Saturday, only trailing in the early minutes of the game to the visiting Defiance Yellow Jackets. Shooting a scorching 62.5% from the field, the Lions were a tough unit to stop and took a 52-30 lead into the half. The Mount came out of the gates hot in the second half as well with a 17-7 run, establishing a commanding lead that would last the rest of the way, resulting in a final score of 92-57.
How it Happened:
Senior forward Erik Edwards (Cincinnati, OH/Roger Bacon) would continue his league leading, 64.6% from the field with a 4-4 mark. The Lions owned the glass with twelve rebounds in the first half, to the Yellow Jackets eight. With nine minutes remaining, junior forward Mitch Moorhead (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) converted an acrobatic tip-in that brought the crowd to their feet. The Lions went into the locker room with a 52-30 lead.
The Mount would find the open man more often than not assisting on nine baskets for the second half. Sophomore guard Adam Goetz (Erlanger, Kentucky / St. Henry) had a productive second half scoring seventeen of his twenty-seven points and going 3-3 from the line. Goetz's backcourt member, Andrew Finley (Cincinnati, OH / Walnut Hills) played well scoring ten points to go along with one assist. The Lions would outscore the Yellow Jackets 40-27 in the second half, bringing the game to a final, 92-57.
Finley and Goetz led the Lions offensively scoring 56 points between the two of them and controlling the pace of the game from the point. Edwards dominated the paint, leading the team with eight rebounds while also scoring 14 points.
