GREENWOOD, Indiana-- For the first time in the 2017-18 season a Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball player has been selected as the Hearland Collegiate Athletic Conference player-of-the-week. Senior forward Erik Edwards (Cincinnati, OH/Roger Bacon) was honored by the league, announced Monday by the league office.
Erik got the week off an outstanding start for the Lions, as they got their first of two victories on the road against Rose-Hulman. Edwards registered his first double-double of the season with a 28 point, 11 rebound effort. He followed that monster game up with another very solid effort on the road at Anderson. Despite dealing with foul trouble and only playing 21 minutes he still scored 17 points and pulled in 6 boards.
His week long stat line was extremely impressive, he averaged 22.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and a block per game. He was extremely efficient offensively for the week going 20-of-26 in field goal attempts for the week to shoot an unbelievable 77 percent from the field for the week.
The Lions will take to the court again on Saturday, as the welcome the Quakers of Earlham College into the Harrington Center. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM tip-off.
