Balanced offensive attack helps Lions stay unbeaten in HCAC

ANDERSON, Indiana-- The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team defeated Anderson University 80-72 to move to 5-3 overall on the season and 3-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Mount is alone atop the HCAC standings, as the lone undefeated team left after two weeks of conference play.

Mount St. Joseph featured a balanced offensive attack in this one, as four players scored in double figures. Sophomore Adam Goetz (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry) led the way with a season-high 24 points and 5 rebounds.

Joining Goetz in double figures was Erik Edwards (Cincinnati, OH/Roger Bacon), Jordan Henry (Lexington, KY/Bryan Station) and Andrew Finley (Cincinnati, OH/Walnut Hills). Edwards had 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, he added a team-high 6 rebounds. Finley pitched in with 14 points and Henry added 13 of his own.

The Mount trailed early as Anderson came out of the gates strong. The Lions then took the lead with 13:28 to play in the first half, as Conner Myslowski (Dayton, OH/West Carrolton) drilled a three-pointer to give the Lions a 15-13 lead. Myslowski's three started the Lions on a 17-6 run over the next six plus minutes, pushing their lead to double digits. The Lions would not trail again in the game.

They continued their recent run of outstanding shooting as a team in the first half, shooting 61.5 percent. This outstanding offensive effort helped the Lions to take a 44-31 lead into the break.

The Lions would hold on in the second half, surviving Anderson's best efforts to get back into the game. The Ravens were blistering from the field in the second half shooting 62.1 percent from the field. The Lions would be outscored 41-36 in the second half but would hold on to get the 80-72 win.

The Mount will put their undefeated HCAC record on the line next Saturday, December 16th as they welcome the Quakers of Earlham College (3-5, 1-2 HCAC) into the Harrington Center. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 4:00 PM.
