HOW IT HAPPENED
Mount St. Joseph struggled to get on track from the opening tip. The Pioneers scored the game's first basket and the Lions never led in the first half. Jake Cropper made a 3 pointer with seconds remaining on the clock in the first half to cut the Pioneers lead to 2 at the half, 28-26.

The Lions finally gained the team's first lead at the 17:17 mark of the second half on a Travis Combs tip in, making the score 30-28. The score remained tight over the next 10 minutes with the lead changing hands multiple times and neither team leading by more than four points. With 6:37 to play the Lions gained the lead on the strength of another Combs tip in, 50-49. Mount St. Joseph would not trail again in the game, missing only two shots the remainder of the game.
