MSJ offense explodes in win against rival Thomas More

Mount St. Joseph University (4-4) defeated Thomas More College (3-5) 92-84 as Joel Scudder scores 25 points for the Lions. 

The Lions started out the game shooting well, knocking down three-pointers in three consecutive drives down the court, with Andrew Finley making two. The Mount jumped out to an 11 point lead with 11:04 left in the half and took a 39-34 lead into halftime. 

Finley was on fire, making all three of the three-pointers he attempted while also making two more baskets and three free throws. He finished the half with 16 points. 

Joel Scudder started the game out strong, finishing with 11 points in the half. 

In the second half, the Mount went on an 8-0 run to lengthen its lead to 13. From there, the Lions continued to outscore the Saints, grabbing an 18-point lead with 12:14 left in the game. 

Thomas More started to make its comeback using some tight man-to-man coverage that caused several Lions turnovers and forced timeouts. The Saints cut the lead down to five with 1:15 left in the game.

With the game close at 85-80, Erik Edwards was fouled on a break-away layup which ended in an intentional foul. The Lions got the ball back after Edwards nailed both free throws, and secured the victory. 

Scudder lead the team in points on the night with 25. Finley also finished strong with 23 points. Travis Combs had a low-key game, grabbing eight rebounds and having five assists on the night, leading the team in both categories.  

The Lions go on a break, not playing their next game till Dec. 29 against Marietta College in the "Mose" Hole/Kiwanis Classic at the College of Wooster. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
