Mount St. Joseph University (3-3, 2-0 HCAC) went off in overtime against Rose Hulman Institute of Technology (3-3, 0-1) to earn its second conference win 90-73.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mount and Rose-Hulman battled it out the entire game, with the Fightin' Engineers starting the game out fast, grabbing a 12 point lead with 8:46 left in the first half. That lead was Rose-Hulman's largest of the game. The Lions battled back, slicing the lead to six by halftime.
The Lions grabbed the first lead of the game after a Travis Combs layup and extended the lead to 11 with 3:54 left. The Fightin' Engineers fought back, closing the Lions lead to two with 47 seconds left on the clock. After a Mount turnover, Rose-Hulman received another chance. With four seconds left on the clock, Rose-Hulman player drove to the basket to make a layup and send the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Lions dominated, outscoring Rose-Hulman 25-8. Senior guard Joel Scudder caught fire, scoring the first 11 points for the Mount. He ended overtime with 15 of the 25 points.
The Lions went 96% from the free throw line, going 26-27 from the line.
Scudder finished the game with a season high 37 points and went 10-10 from the free throw line. He also lead the team in steals with six on the day. Tyler Manaugh lead the team in rebounds with eight, all of which came on the defensive end of the floor. Erik Edwards finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Lions host Manchester University, Saturday at 5 p.m.
