The Mount Lions furthered their impressive record to a 7-3 overall mark on Tuesday night at the Harrington Center with a 68-61 win over NAIA-Goshen College. The Mount’s next game will be at home on January 3 at 5:00 p.m. against Manchester University (2-8, 1-2 HCAC). The Lions are 2-1 in conference play.
The Lions started out strong in the first half where they racked up six, three-pointers, shooting 40% from beyond the arc. Andy Countryman (Peebles, OH/Peebles) helped in the first half shooting 50% from long range, with two out of the six made. Countryman finished with 16 points.
Joel Scudder (Greendale, IN/South Dearborn) finished with the most points for the Mount on the night with 19. Fifteen of those points were from three-point range. MSJ ended up shooting just under 40% from behind the three-point line. Scudder also went on to lead the team in assists with six.
The Lions posted a notable 41 rebounds on the night, with Ken Kunkel (Cincinnati/OH Colerain) leading the way with 10. Kunkel finished with a double-double for the night with 11 points. He went on to make five-of-six free throws in the game.
The Mount out-shot Leafs, 45 to 33 percent from the field, and held a 41-28 rebounding edge. The Lions’ bench out-scored their opponents’ bench, 18-6.
