Lions unable to overcome five turnovers in loss at Rose-Hulman

Location: Terre Haute, Indiana (Cook Stadium)

Basics:

The Lions dug themselves an early hole as Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 21-0 lead after only one quarter. The defense would settle in for The Mount, but they were unable to overcome the offenses five turnovers.

How it Happened:

Rose jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after they took the opening kickoff. They found the enzone on the games third play from scrimmage on a 57 yard touchdown pass. The Lions offense would sputter on their first series of the game, committing a costly penalty and allowing a sack forcing them to punt.

The Fightin' Engineers would find the enzone again on their next two drives, and the Lions were unable to find an answer. Trailing 21-0 in the second quarter the Lions would finally get on the scoreboard with a 31 touchdown pass from Chaiten Tomlin (Mt. Orab, OH/Western Brown) to Grayson Roberts (Cincinnati, OH/Reading).

Saturday was definately not the Tomlin's best performance in a Lions uniform. He was sacked five times, Rose registered 6 sacks in total in the game. He also threw five interceptions in the game. This perfomance does not fall soley at Tomlin's feet though. Due to the score and an injury to the Lions starting running back, the running game was almost non-existent. The Lions did do a good job of continuing to compete despite the outcome of the game being all but decided realitvely early on.

Game Balls:

Roberts had another very big game for the Lions with 4 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively the Lions were led by linebacker Troy Speakman who led the team with 8 tackles, all of them solo tackles. Tyler Hannah (Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day) added another interception to push his season total to an HCAC leading five.

Up Next:

The Lions will return home next week and play host to the Quakers of Earlham, the game is scheduled to kick-off at 1:30 pm at Schueler Field
