Lions take two against the Raptors on final day in Florida

AUBURNDALE, Florida – On their final day in Florida, the Lions played two against the Raptors of Bard University. The Lions defeated the Raptors 11-3 and 6-0, moving to 9-6 on the season.

In Game One, Alex Wagner (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) recorded 8 strikeouts and allowed just 2 earned runs on 5 hits in route to his third win on the year. Wagner was dominant on the mound, pitching a complete game, going all 7 innings.

Both teams scored a run in the third and the Raptors would plate two more in the fourth. Despite the early lead, the Raptors would not score again. The Lions cut the lead in the fifth with a Ryan Murray (Cincinnati, OH / Colerain) RBI single to left field, bringing home a run.

The Lions reclaimed the lead in the sixth off two errors by the Raptors, bringing the score to 4-3. After a 1-2-3 bottom half, the Lions got hot and scored 7 runs in the top of the seventh, resulting in a final score of 11-3.

Wagner pitched well behind great offense by the Mount. Roman Rothwell (Monroe, OH / Monroe) tallied 3 RBI's off a seventh inning home run and Murray recorded 3 RBI's as well. Nathan Hunter (Vevay, IN / Switzerland County) also had an RBI with a home run in the seventh inning.

In Game Two, the Mount sent Wyatt Myers (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) to the mound and the quality pitching continued. Myers went five scoreless innings, recording 5 strikeouts in his first win on the year.

The Lions offense was clicking in game two as well, recording 10 hits in the game. In the bottom half of the third, Jose Bustamante (Austell, GA / South Cobb) stepped to the plate with bases loaded and would deliver, driving in 2 runs with a single down the left field line. The Mount wasn't finished as they plated two more runs in the inning, and two more in the fourth.

Myers pitched a phenomenal game, allowing the Raptors only one real opportunity to score and his team backed him well with great offensive play.

The Lions will play a double header against Miami Hamilton on their campus this Friday, the 23rd. First pitch is scheduled at 4 PM.
