The College of Mount St. Joseph softball team traveled to Lexington, KY on Thursday afternoon, and was defeated twice by the host Pioneers in five innings, 15-3 and 10-2. The Mount returns to action on April 12 when they continue HCAC play at Defiance College. The Lions are 3-13 overall this season, 1-3 in the conference.
Transy plated seven runs in each of the first and fourth inning, in game one. The Lions' scored a run in the second inning, on an RBI single by Sierra Sydnor (Dry Ridge, KY/Grant County), scoring Ashley Moore (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest). Sydnor also had a run-scoring double in the fourth inning while the Mount's final run was driven in by Becky Owens (Cincinnati, OH/Dater) in the fifth inning. Owens led the Lions' seven-hit attack with three hits, while Morgan Kain (Batesville, IN/Batesville) had a double and Makayla McClurg (Aurora, IN/South Dearborn) had two walks. Moore suffered the pitching loss, and was relieved by Sydnor and Megan James (Villa Hills, KY/Dixie Heights).
In game two, the Pioneers continued their potent offensive attack, scoring five runs in the first inning, two runs in the second and three runs in the third. The Mount scored both of its runs in teh third inning, when James blasted a two-run home run, scoring Erica Parker (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg), in the third inning. Jessica Davis pitched a complete game, and absorbed the loss. The Mount had six hits in the game, with Kain leading the way with two hits and Parker collecting a double.
