Lions' softball team claims doubleheader sweep over Hanover College

The Lions ended an 11-game losing streak, and won recorded their first doubleheader sweep of the seaon on Tuesday, winning game at Hanover College, 4-3 in nine innings and 10-3. The Mount, 6-22 overall, 3-9 in the HCAC, will conclude 2013 home action on April 27 when they host Franklin College.

Game one against the Panthers pound out 12 hits, making a winner of Leslie Biggs (Harrison, OH/Harrison), who started and was relieves by Taylor McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County). Hanover led 2-0 entering the sixth inning but RBI singles by Paige Norton (Cincinnati, OH/Reading) and Kim McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) knotted the score at two-all. Both teams scored once each in the eighth inning, while the Mount produced the go-ahead run (4-3) in the ninth when Claire Wehby (Mason, OH/Mason) singled in pinch runner Katie Mitchell (Columbus, OH/Westerville North). The Panthers stranded runners on second and third base to end the game. Norton had three hits to lead the offense, while Kim McElhinny and Taylor McElhinny, along with teammate Mallory Wright (Germantown, OH/Valley View) had two hits each.

In the nightap against the Panthers, the Lions tied a 2013 team, season-high mark with 14 hits, as Taylor McElhinny had three hits and three RBI; and Sam Ives (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry) chipped in three hits. Norton also registered three RBI, making a winner of Kim McElhinny, who tossed a complete game allowing four hits and one earned run. The Lions had four extra-base hits in the game, as they bolted out to a 6-1 lead after four innings, while adding four runs in the sixth inning.
