Lions' softball team drops twin-bill at Thomas More College

Host Thomas More College recorded a twin-bill shutout over the Lions Mount on Thursday afternoon, winning 6-0 and 5-0. The Mount, which slips to 3-9 on the season, will be back in action on March 30 when they begin 2013 HCAC play with a doubleheader at Manchester College.

The first game saw the Saints jump out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, and add single runs in the third and fifth innings, while holding the Mount to five hits. The Lions also recorded four walks in the game, but was unable to push across any runs, as they left 11 runners on base, including many in scoring position. Paige Norton (Cincinnati, OH/Reading) led the Mount with four hits, while teammate Tanya Sefton (Vevay, IN/Switzerland County) had two walks. Kim McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) started for the Lions, and pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs.

Thomas More completed the sweep in the second game, scoring a run in the first inning; and two runs each in the third and fifth innings. Mallory Wright, (Germantown, OH/Valley View) McElhinny, and Sefton each had a hit in the game, and were the Lions' only batters to reach base. Taylor McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) started for the Mount and sufferered the loss, dropping to 2-3 on the season. Danielle Hausfeld (Wilder, Ky/Newport Central Catholic) pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
