The Mount ran its season record to 3-3 on Wednesday when they registered a 15-2 (five inning) win against Albion College and a 7-6 win against Roger Williams University in Spring Break play in Kissimmee, FL. The Lions will resume action on Florida on March 15 when they play Montclair State University and the University of Mount Union.
The Lions led 10-0 after three innings of play, and completed the five-inning run rule shortened contest over Albion by scoring three runs in the fifth inning. Kim McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) won her first game of the season for the Mount, going all five innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs, with six strikeouts. The Mount pounded out 14 hits in the game, and were aided by nine Albion errors. McElhinny had three hits, including a double, and two runs scored while Paige Norton (Cincinnati, OH/Reading) recorded two hits. Taylor McElhinny (Crestwood, Ky/Oldham County) had two hits against the Britons.
In the day's second game against Roger Williams University, the Lions came back from a 4-0 deficit, by plating five runs in the third inning to take a 5-4 lead. Norton helped key the comeback with a two-run single in the frame. The Mount added two more runs in the fifth inning, to take a 7-4 advantage and then held off a late challenge by their opponents. The Lions threw out the potential game-tying run at the plate in the seventh inning, and saw the game end on a flyout, stranding a runner on third base. Norton and Kim McElhinny each had two hits, as Norton added two runs scored. Taylor McElhinny improved to 2-0 on the season, tossing a complete game, and allowing one earned run while striking out seven.
