Lions' volleyball player Alex Vohland claims second major CVC honor within a week

The 2014 Continental Volleyball Conference individual awards have been released and the Freshman of the Year is Alex Vohland (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) of the College of Mount St. Joseph.

Vohland, a freshman outside hitter, was named the 2014 Freshman of the Year in helping the Lions’ team return to CVC play, and turn in a program-best 16 wins. Vohland was the Lions go-to-player with over 300 kills on the season, averaging 4.02 per set with a .242 hitting percentage. He also was second on the team in digs and total blocks. Vohland finished fourth in the conference in kills, sixth in kills per set and seventh in digs.

He finished with 20 double- digit kill matches, topping 20 kills four times including a season-best 27 kills against Thiel College. He added eight, double-digit digs games this season, seven of which came during conference play.
