All twelve Continental Volleyball Conference teams will gather on Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9 in the Mount’s Harrington Center for the premier Division III men’s volleyball tournament in the country.
The event will feature three, nationally-ranked teams and fierce competition between well-established programs as well as some up-and-coming teams.
The CVC is divided into a six-team West Division and a six-team East Division, and during the conference crossover event, teams from the east and west will square off for divisional bragging rights. Each team will get three matches against opponents from the other divisions.
“No other DIII tournament, not even the national championships features as many teams as this event,” said Mount Head Coach Ryan Lengerich. “It’s a dynamic event and unlike anything this conference or any other has tried to pull off. I’m proud of all the work the men’s volleyball program and the university administration has put in to make this a reality.”
The Mount will split the Harrington Center into two courts and play will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the final matches set to begin at 9 p.m. on Saturday night. Each team will play twice on Saturday. Play will resume Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. with the final matches set for 1:30 p.m., and each team will play once that day.
The Mount will face first-year program Marymount University at 1:30 p.m. and Cairn University at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Lions will then square off against No. 10-ranked Stevenson University at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
“I’ve had a chance to watch a little film from all three teams we face and we are going to have to play well in all three matches if we want a chance to come out on top,” Lengerich added. “Marymount and Cairn are solid and well-coached, and Stevenson will bring some major firepower to the gym. I’m looking forward to the challenge and so are the student-athletes.”
Other top matches during the tournament include:
*No. 10 Stevenson against No. 7 Carthage at 8:30 a.m. Saturday
*No. 3 Juniata against No. 7 Carthage at 1:30 p.m. Saturday
*Lakeland (6-2) against No. 3 Juniata at 1:30 p.m. Sunday
Admission to the event is $5 each day for adults. Seniors and high school students are $2. Mount students and alumni, as well as children 13 and under, are admitted free.
