Mount men's volleyball completes second day of action at MSJ Invitational

The Mount began the second day of the MSJ Men's Volleyball Invitational on a winning note, defeating Rust College, 3-0, for their first win of the season. The Lions came back later in the day to take on Lourdes University, falling 3-1. The Mount, 1-3 on the season, will be back in action on Jan. 25 when they head to River Forest, IL to take on McKendree College and Dominican (IL) University.

The Lions had four hitters with a .400 hitting percentage or better in the 25-5, 25-13, 25-17 win over Rust College. The Mount had 35 kills in the match, as they were led by Lyle Lehmann (Rapid City, SD/Rapid City Central), who had nine kils and Josh Schneider (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle), who added seven kills. Richie Planek (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South) had 23 assists and three service aces. Brett Cooper (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) chipped in five digs and three service aces.

The Mount started off the match against Lourdes University with a 25-19 first set win, hitting at a strong .409 clip, but saw the visiting team post  the win, as they edged the Mount in the final three sets, 25-21, 25-19, 25-20. Overall, the Lions had 43 kills, as Alex Vohland (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) had a solid all-around match. Vohland had a team-high 17 kills, nine digs, four block assists and two service aces. Cesar Trigo de Serrano (Miami, FL/Christopher Columbus) added 11 kills while teammate Zach Kuebler (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Darby) had 17 digs. Luke Eschenbach (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) recorded 36 assists in the four-set match and Lehmann had two service aces. Toby Birnbrich (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) chipped in two block solos and block assists.
