Lyle Lehmann, a 6-foot-1 defensive specialist, from Rapid City Central High School in South Dakota has committed to play volleyball at the Mount next season, Head Coach Ryan Lengerich announced today.
Lehmann will transfer from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa where he was a member of the soccer team. He has committed to enroll for the second semester and will be eligible to compete in the 2014 season.
“I got to know Lyle while coaching in South Dakota and he immediately made an impression on me as a gifted player with excellent court awareness,” Lengerich said. “Though it can be tough to find boys volleyball in South Dakota, Lyle was always improving his skills anytime he could, and his passion for the game was very clear.”
Lengerich said Lehmann will make an instant impact on the team’s passing and ball control.
“I’m excited to bring Lyle into the MSJ volleyball family,’’ Lengerich added. “He is a personable guy with good values and an excellent student. He will be a great fit academically and athletically.”
Lehmann is the son of Richard and Michele Lehmann of Rapid City, S.D. He intends to major in biology.
He joins Zach Kuebler of Hilliard, Ohio, Brett Cooper and Josh Schneider of Cincinnati, Richie Planek of Wheaton, Ill., Toby Birnbrich of Columbus, and Cesar Trigo de Serrano of Miami, Fla. as first-year players for the upcoming season.
