The revived College of Mount St. Joseph Men’s volleyball program concluded its preseason Saturday, Nov. 9 by winning all five sets in an exhibition match against Cincinnati Christian University.
No official statistics were recorded in the match. The Mount held CCU to less than 15 points in all five sets. The match marks the end of a five-week preseason for the Lions. The student-athletes will continue weight and speed training for the remainder of the semester, according to Head Coach Ryan Lengerich.
The Mount opens 2014 regular season play against Division II Lees-McRae College on January 18 at 1:30 p.m. in the Harrington Center.
“I’m proud of my guys for their hard work during the preseason,’’ Lengerich stated. “We were able to input our offensive and defensive systems, and we expect to fine tune them in the regular season.”
The team competed without outside hitter Alex Vohland, who is suffering from a leg injury. He is expected to return to the court for the regular season.
“It was a good five weeks,’’ Lengerich added. “The coaches set the standards for what we expect this regular season. I think we can be very competitive this season.”
