The College of Mount St. Joseph has formally committed to competing in the Continental Volleyball Conference next season, Athletic Director Steve Radcliffe announced today.
Radcliffe confirmed with CVC officials the Mount will participate in the 2014 season after the Lions opted not to compete in the 2013 season. The next two season's conference schedules are set for release later this month.
New Head Coach Ryan Lengerich said he is excited about the program’s future.
"Today's announcement once again shows the strong commitment by the Mount's athletic department and administration to the future of the men's volleyball program," Lengerich said. "I would like to thank Athletic Director Steve Radcliffe for his endless support of men's volleyball and his commitment to the program's current and future student-athletes."
Lengerich, who officially starts his tenure Feb. 22, joins the Lions after being the first assistant for the California State University at Monterey Bay (CSUMB) women’s volleyball team during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Lengerich played high school volleyball at Cincinnati’s Elder High School and at the college level for the Indiana University club team. He becomes the third head coach for the Mount's men’s program, which was founded in 2009-2010.
The Mount finished 4-21 overall last season, 1-7 in the CVC. Other schools in the CVC are: East Division, Stevenson, East Mennonite, Juniata, Thiel and Cairn; West Division, Carthage, UC Santa Cruz, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Fontbonne. The Lions will be in the CVC’s West Division. Dominican University (IL), Lakeland College and Marymount University will join the CVC as new members next season.
Coach Lengerich is getting going at building all facets of the Lions’ men’s volleyball team, including intense recruiting, and working on the 2014 match schedule. For more information on the Mount’s men’s volleyball program, contact him at email@example.com or at (513) 244-4319.
