Mount freshman forward Brandon Burns (Hamilton, OH/Ross) scored a goal off an assist from Zach Kuebler (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Darby) just 1:43 into the game, and the Lions withstood a Hanover offensive attack as the Lions upset the HCAC-leader Panthers on Thursday night at home, 1-0. The Mount goes to 3-13 overall, 2-4 in the conference, while Hanover moves to 9-6-1, 5-1. The Lions return to action on Oct. 26 when they host an HCAC game against Manchester College.
Hanover out-shot the Mount, 18-8 in the game, but had only three shots on goal to the Lions' six shots on goal. The Mount's defense and goalkeeper Austin Cagle (Independence, KY/Simon Kenton) were up to the task of stopping the Panthers' high scoring offense, as Cagle had three saves in the team's first shutout of the season.
