Host Kenyon College jumped out to a 7-2 halftime lead on Saturday, and withstood a furious Mount second half challenge to post an 11-5 win over the Lions. The Mount, 0-3 on the season, will be back in action on Mar. 4 at Otterbein University.
The Lords out-shot the Lions 26-19 in the first two periods of play, as they grabbed leads of 6-0 and 7-2 (at the half). The Mount, however, fought back and scored the game's first three goals after halftime, with one from Andrew Stoffer (Palatine, IL/Palatine), and two by teammate Ryan Gallagher (Chicago, IL/St. Rita), to cut the deficit to 7-5 by the 7:51 mark of the fourth quarter. Kenyon rebounded after that point to shut down the Mount offense, scoring the last four goals of the game, en route to the win.
Gallagher led the Lions with four goals while teamate Cory Wojciechowski (Las Vegas, NV/Community College East) added two assists. Mike Weil (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Mount, recording 15 saves.
Kenyon out-shot the Mount, 43-34 in the game, including 26-18 in shots on goal. The Lions scored three goals in four attempts with the man advantage.
