Host Defiance College bolted out to a 3-0 lead on Wednesday afternoon, only to see the Lions fight back and pull ahead by a 10-5 score at the half, en route to an 18-7 win over the Yellow Jackets. The Lions, 5-6 overall, 3-2 in the MLC, are slated to return to action on April 14 when they host a conference game against Concordia (WI) University.
After holding a 10-5 lead the half, the Mount four unanswered goals to push their advantage to 14-5. The Yellow Jackets would get not closer than eight, in the second half, as the Lions out-shot Defiance, 51-17, including 31-6 and 20-11 by half. The Mount also held a 34-10 lead in shots on goal.
Will McClanahan (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) led the Mount offense, recording six goals and six assists against Defiance. The six assists and 12 points set a Mount single-game record. Peter Thompson (Homewood, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor) and Ryan Gallagher (Chicago, Il/ St. Rita) each added four goals. Gallagher also had two assists while teammate Joey Ely (Centerville, OH/Centerville) had three goals and an assist. Andrew Stoffer (Palatine, IL/Palatine) chipped in two goals and an assist. Joe Illencik (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) recorded the win in goal, making three saves.
