The Lions got two goals each from three different players against Alma College, en route to an 8-2 home win on Friday afternoon. The Mount, 1-2 on the season, resumes action on March 9 when they open MLC season play at Benedictine University.
Alma jumped out to a 1-0 lead, just 3:25 into the game, but saw the Mount answer back with three first quarter goals, as they took a 3-2 lead on an unassisted goal by Ryan Gallagher (Chicago, IL/St. Rita), his second of the game. The Lions would add two more goals in the second quarter, to take a 5-2 halftime lead into the locker room.
The Mount would do all the scoring in the second, blanking the Scots with good defense. Peter Thompson (Homewood, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor) would help lead the second half charge as he totaled two, second-half goals while the Mount's defense held Alma to four, second half shots on goal. Joe Illencik (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Lions, recording four saves for the win.
