10th-ranked Denison University jumped out to a 10-1 lead today at the Mount en route to a 19-2 victory over the Lions, in the season opener for both teams. The Mount returns to action on Feb. 27 at Ohio Wesleyan University.

The Mount got on the scoreboard first today, with 8:10 left in the first quarter, when Patrick McClanahan (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) scored off a pass from brother Will McClanahan (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira). The Big Red, however, would bounce back behind a proficient offense, and solid defense, and score the game's next 10 goals, to take a 10-1 lead at the intermission. The Lions would score first in the second half, when Peter Thompson (Homewood, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor) tallied an unassisted goal just 1:13 into the second half.

Denison would out-shoot the Mount, 47-11, including 27-7 in shots on goal. The Big Red got goals from 11 different players.
