Lions' men's golf finishes second at the HCAC Championships

The College of Mount St. Joseph's men’s golf team finished second at the HCAC Championships. The event was played over four days, and two weekends, at two different locations. The first two days were played in Franklin, Indiana last weekend with the final two rounds bring played in Defiance, Ohio Saturday and Sunday. The Lions finished with a team score of 1242, 106-over par. Transylvania was the HCAC Champion at 1195, 95-over par. The medalist was Sanders Park of Rose-Hulman.

Two Lions performed well enough to be named to the All-HCAC team. Eric Hensler (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) led the way for Lions. Hensler finished in a tie for fifth place, just nine strokes behind the winner. Henlser played consistent staying in the 70’s in all four rounds (75-77-74-79). His total of 305 was 21-over par. The other All-HCAC honoree was Phil Gilmore (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington). Gilmore finished alone in eighth places Gilmore started and finished strong. He had a total of 306 (70-83-77-76 (22-over par).

Ben Schneider (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) finished just outside the All-HCAC spots in 13th. Schneider finished at 312 (72-80-80-80), 28-over par. Two other Lions earned top-twenty finishes. Matt Stiens (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) finished in a tie for 17th and Stephen Beamer (Cincinnati, OH/Madiera) earned 20th. place individually. Stiens shot 322 (80-84-80-78), 38-over par and Beamer finished at 325 (82-82-82-79), for 41-over par.

This is the end of the season for the Lions and the final competition for six of the team's senior golfers - Danny Gravett (Cincinnati, OH/SCPA), Tom Witterstaetter (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills), Conor McGarry (Lexington, KY/Lexington Catholic), Gilmore, Stiens, and Schneider.
