The Mount men's golf squad was in action on Monday and Tuesday this week, at the three-team Cameo Pizza Battle of the Brook, held in Sandusky, Ohio. The Lions shot a 303-285--588, to finish just four strokes behind Otterbein University (584) and one stroke behind Ohio Wesleyan University (585) for the team title. The Lions 284 shot on the second day was their top 18-hole team score for the fall season.
Tom Witterstaetter (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) led the way for the Mount with a third place individual finish, recording a 73-70--143. Matt Stiens (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) tied for sixth place with an 80-68--148 while teammate Stephen Beamer (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) was 10th with a 74-75--149. Stiens' second round score of 68 was the Lions' top individual 18-hole score of the fall campaign, and the lowest score from any of the three schools' players. Eight golfers in all competed for the Lions in the two-day event.
The match marks an end to the team's fall 2013 season. They will return to action on March 10-11, 2014 at the TaylorMade-Adidas Intercollegiate Tournament.
