Mount men's golf team ranked second in the nation

College of Mount St. Joseph Men’s Golf Head Coach Joe Sparhawk and his team are currently ranked second in NCAA Division III by rankings. The ranking is the highest ever for the Lions, who claimed first place at the Transylvania University Invitational on Sept. 8. The Mount shot a two-day total of 588, to out-distance runner-up Rhodes College (591). Host and 2013 NCAA Division III National runner-up Transylvania placed fourth (601). The Pioneers had been ranked No.1 in the national by Golf World/Nike Golf Division III College Preseason Coach Poll.

Nebraska Wesleyan University currently holds down the top spot in the rankings.

The Lions are scheduled to compete in their second fall event on Sept. 22-23 at the Dick Park Invitational, which will be held at the Legends of Indiana Golf
Course in Franklin, Indiana.

Members of this year’s team are: Tyler Marton, Will Nodo, Weston Atchison, Andrew Booth, John Copella, Eric Hensler, Tom Witterstaetter,
Phil Gilmore, Drew Nichols, Tyler Overberg, Conor McGarry, Matt Stiens, Jason Sawyer, Danny Gravett, Stephen Beamer, and Ben Schneider. Assistant coaches are: Karl Power, Mike Whalen and Andy Wellendorf.
