Mount men's golf team posts dramatic win at Transylvania University Fall Invitational

The College of Mount St. Joseph men's golf team began its 2013-14 campaign with a first place finish at the Transylvania University Fall Invitational. The Lions recorded a two-round score of 588, out-pacing runner-up Rhodes College (591), who was ranked as the pre-season #11 team in the country, and Wittenberg University (592). Host Transylvania University, the pre-season #1 team, finished with a 601. The Mount shot a one-under par 287 first round and 301 in the second round en route to the win in Lexington, KY.

Senior Phil Gilmore (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) was named to the All-Tournament team, as he finished in a tie for second place individually with a 70-74--144, just one stroke behind the medalist. Teammate Eric Hensler (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) tied for seventh place with a 146 while Matt Stiens (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) was tied for 15th place with a 148. The Mount had 10 golfers in all compete.

The Lions are back on the links on Sept. 22-23 at the Dick Park Invitational in Franklin, IN.
