Joel Scudder (Greendale, IN/South Dearborn) fired in 21 points, leading four Mount players in double figures, as the Lions posted an 81-72 home win over Earlham College. The victory improves the Mount's record to 8-4 overall, 5-1 in the HCAC, and leaves them tied atop the conference standings with Rose-Hulman and Hanover. The Lions are back in action on Jan. 15 when they host Hanover.

The Mount got off to a good start on Saturday afternoon against the Quakers, racing out to an 11-4 lead enroute to a 38-28 advantage at the break. The Lions converted on 50 percent of their shots in the opening half while holding Earlham to 37 percent shooting. They also forced nine Earlham turnovers in the first 20 minutes of action.

Earlham would turn up the pressure in the second half, by out-shooting the Mount, 59 to 50 percent from the field, and made one more three-pointer than the Lions (six to five). The Quakers tied the game at 47-all with 10:36 on the clock and grabbed a 52-51 lead after making two free throws with 8:31 left in the game. Scudder, and teammate David Mann (Fairfield, OH/Cincinnati Christian), along with Mark Allen (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) fought off the challenge and after hitting key shots, enabled the Lions to take a 62-54 lead with 5:50 to play. The Mount would make six-of-nine free throws down the stretch en route to their third win in a row.

Allen added 19 points and five rebounds while Ken Kunkel (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) and Andy Countryman (Peebles, OH/Peebles) had 14 points each. Kunkel added seven rebounds and six assists. Scudder chipped in five rebounds and five assists.
