Mark Allen (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) led a strong Mount first half display on Saturday, and paced four Lions' players in double figures, as the Lions rolled to a 78-53 win at Manchester University in HCAC play. The Lions, 6-4 overall, have a 3-1 confererence mark and are tied for the top spot in the conference with four other teams. They return to HCAC action on Jan. 8 when they host Bluffton University (6-5, 2-2 HCAC).
Allen helped the Lions to nine-point halftime lead in the game, and the Mount never looked back. The Lions out-shot the home team, 52 to 46 percent from the field in the opening half. The Lion's first year guard hit numerous layups down the stretch in the first half, pushing the team's lead to near double digits each time. The Mount also forced 10 first half Manchester turnovers. Andy Countryman (Peebles, OH/Peebles) connected on a three-point shot with 18:00 on the second half clock, giving the Mount a 43-27 lead, and Femi Thompson (Cincinnati, OH/Aiken) made a lay-up with 14:55 left in the game, pushing the Mount lead out to 28 points, their largest of the game.
Allen finished with 20 points, four rebounds and three steals while Countryman added 17 points. Thompson chipped in 10 points and Joel Scudder (Greendale, IN/South Dearborn) had 15 points. The Lions starters out-scored the Spartans starting group, 66-27 in the game. Bobby Murdock (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) added a game-high eight rebounds. The Mount committed just eight turnovers in the game while forcing 20 Manchester miscues.
