15th-ranked Augustana College shot 58 percent in the first half, and behind a balanced scoring attack that saw six players in double figures, defeated the Lions at home on Wednesday night, 81-56. The Mount falls to 5-4 with the loss while Augustana improves to 8-1 on the season. The Lions will be back in action on Jan. 4 with an HCAC game at Manchester College.
Augustana raced out to an 11-2 lead to begin the game, and led 24-12 midway through the first half. A basket with 40 seconds left in the first half game Augustana a 40-27 lead at the intermission. The Lions connected on just 40 percent from the field in the opening half, and were out-rebounded 19-10.
The second half saw the Auggies converted numerous free throw opportunities, and shoot efffectively again from the floor, building up a 20-point lead (59-39) with 13:23 left in the game. Augustana would make 52 percent from the field in the second half, and out-score the Lions 14-0 from the free throw line as they rolled to their eight win in nine games this season.
David Mann (Fairfield, OH/Cincinnati Christian) led the Lions with 17 points, and now has 925 career points. Mark Allen (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) chipped in 13 points for the Mount. Ken Kunkel (Cincinnati. OH/Colerain) had a team-high five rebounds.
