The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces the hiring of Steve Barrows as Assistant Football Coach. Barrows will be the Lions’ Offensive Coordinator.

Mount Head Coach Rod Huber had this to say about the most recent addition to his coaching staff.

“I feel very fortunate to have Coach Steve Barrows joining our staff as Offensive Coordinator,’’ Huber states. “He is a proven professional who has a tremendous amount of experience at all levels of NCAA football. He is very familiar with the HCAC having won the Conference Championship in 2001 as head coach of the Anderson University Ravens. He will bring a Pro-Style offense to our offense that will emphasize a vertical passing game and strong emphasis on running the ball.”

Barrows is ready to get started with the College’s football program.

“My family and I couldn't be happier about the opportunity to be at The Mount,’’ Barrows adds. “I am excited about working with Head Coach Rod Huber, his staff, all of the great people at the College of Mount St. Joseph; and being a part of Cincinnati, Ohio!”

The Lions’ new assistant coach has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree (Physical Education, Athletic Administration) from Ohio University.

Barrows was most recently at NCAA Division III Hardin-Simmons University as Co-Defensive Coordinator (2008-2010), Defensive Coordinator (2011) and Linebacker Coach (2008-2011). Prior to that, Barrows was the Defensive Coordinator and Linebacker Coach at NCAA Division I Indiana State University, and Assistant Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Linebacker Coach at NCAA Division I Charleston Southern University.

While at Hardin-Simmons Barrows helped lead the team to a 2008 playoff appearance, and he was also the academic coordinator, the athletic training liaison and the founder of the Cowboys and Kids mentoring program. He was also a member of the coaching staff that led Charleston Southern to the 2005 Big South Conference Co-Championship.

Coach Barrows also has head coaching experience, having been the head coach at NCAA Division III and HCAC member Anderson University from 1999-2002. He led the Ravens to the 2001 HCAC Co-Championship. In addition, Barrows was the Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator at NAIA Bethany (KS) College, helping the team to a conference title and playoff berth, and the Interim Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator/Linebacker Coach at NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Morris. He also has high school coaching experience, as well as coaching stints at NCAA Division I University of Washington and NCAA Division I Ohio University.

Barrows is a member of the American Football Coaches Association, a former voter in the AFCA/USA Today Division III Poll, and a former member of the Division III Council.

Coach Barrows and daughter Emma, will reside in Cincinnati, Ohio.
