Mike McNaughton enters his first season as the Lions’ pitching coach. McNaughton (McNutt) played three seasons with the Lions from 1998-2000. He was a member of the 2000 HCAC Championship team and NCAA Regional runner-up team before being selected in the 25th round by the Florida Marlins in the 2000 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
During McNaughton’s three years as pitcher, he compiled a 22-8 record with a 3.52 ERA. In McNaughton’s 201 innings, he had 153 strikeouts, 13 complete games, and three shutouts. McNaughton’s best season at the Mount came in 1999 when he went 10-2 with a 2.31 ERA and six complete games.
In seven seasons in the Florida Marlins organization, McNaughton amassed a 40-30 record with 3.91 ERA. McNaughton pitched at every level for the Marlins’ farm system, reaching Class AAA in 2004. He was a Midwest League (A) All-Star for the Kane County Cougars in 2001 as well as a member of the Cougars’ championship squad that same year. In 2002, McNaughton led the Florida State League (Hi-A) in wins with 12. In 2004, he was a member of the Phoenix Desert Dogs’ championship team in the Arizona Fall League.
McNaughton, who resides in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, graduated from Thomas More College in 2009, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
