Ryan Desjardins returns to the Lions’ baseball program in 2012, as a first-year coach. Coach Dez will the team’s pitching coach and will also assist with recruiting. Desjardins graduated from the Mount in 2005 with a bachelor of arts in history.
During his playing career he was a four-year starting pitcher for the Lions. His primary pitching role during that time was that of a conference starter. Desjardins career win-loss record for the Lions was 23-8, giving him the program’s top winning percentage and a tie for most career victories. He also holds top rankings for the Lions on the career list in innings pitched, complete games, shutouts, strikeouts and appearances. During his career, he was a two-time All-Conference honoree, named Third Team All-Region, and was a senior co-captain. He was on the Lions’ 2003 HCAC Championship team.
Desjardins has previous coaching experience at the both the high school and collegiate levels. Following college graduation, Desjardins was an assistant JV coach at his alma mater, Colerain High School, where he helped guide the team to back-to-back GMC Championships. He then spent three seasons with Miami University Hamilton as the pitching coach/assistant recruiting coordinator. While at MUM, the team captured three straight ORCC titles. Desjardins spent the 2010-2011 seasons as the varsity assistant coached at Northwest High School, where he was the team’s pitching coach.
During the summer season he has been part of several programs, including the Hamilton Joes, a member of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. In 2010, in just their second season in the GLSCL, the Joes won their first championship. During his tenure with the Hamilton Joes, Desjardins was the team's bullpen coach. From 2008-2009, Desjardins was the head coach of the 17-18U Ohio Heat.
Desjardins is expected to continue his summer coaching in 2012 as head coach for the Ohio Valley Legends in the new Southern Ohio Valley Collegiate League.
Coach Dez, a 2000 high school graduate, resides in Colerain Township. He is a full-time substitute teacher in the Northwest and Oak Hills Local School Districts. He is currently seeking a master’s degree in secondary education.
