Alex Cole (Ross, OH/Ross) tossed seven strong innings, allowing seven hits and an unearned run, as the Mount posted a 7-1 home win on Friday night. The Lions improve to 8-11-1 overall, 3-5 in the HCAC while Defiance College falls to 7-12, 1-6. The two teams were scheduled for an Apr. 5 doubleheader at the University of Cincinnati's Marge Schott Stadium.
Cole evened his 2014 record at 1-1, allowing just an unearned run the sixth inning. The Mount jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, thanks to an RBI single by Nick Browning (Fairfield, OH/Hamilton Badin) and Rob Shaw (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) scoring on an an error. The Lions upped the lead to 3-1 in the seventh on an RBI single by Taylor Alley (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills), and tacked on four more runs in the eight, to lead, 7-1. Browning and Alley each had two hits for the Mount, while teammates Tyler Haubner (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) and Shaw scored two runs apiece.
Nathan Lambert (Lawrenceburg, IN/Lawrenceburg) and Drew Ernst (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) each tossed one inning of scoreless relief.
