HCAC Second-place team Anderson University got another strong pitching effort on Saturday evening, as they defeated the Mount, 8-2 on Senior Night. The Lions, 8-24 overall, 4-16 in the conference, will be back in action on April 30 when they host Spalding University at Midland Field in Amelia, OH.
The two teams started the scoring in the second inning, as the Ravens scored on an RBI groundout and the Mount plated a run on an RBI single by Taylor Alley (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills), scoring Derek Allen (New Alsace, IN/East Central). Anderson, however, would get their offense going over the next few innings, and hold down the Lions, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after hitting in the seventh inning. Alley knocked in Allen again, this time with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, cutting the deficit to 5-2 but the Lions would get no closer as the Ravens added three more runs in the ninth inning.
Ben Seeger (Reading, OH/Reading) had two of the Mount's five hits in the game. Brandon Polking (Cincinnati, OH/St. xavier) started on the Mount for the Lions, taking the loss. He was relieved by Chris Bruckman (Huber Heights, OH/Chaminade-Julienne), who tossed two innings.
Mount seniors Justin Shelton (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson), Mitch Morgan (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest), Taylor Simpson (Monroe, OH/Monroe), and Bruckman were honored before the game.
