Jonathan Roberts (Hebron, KY/Conner) reached on one-out fielding error in the 10th inning, plating teammate Taylor Alley (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) from third base, as the Mount recorded its first win of the season on Monday night, a 10-9 extra inning home victory over Marian (IN) University. The Lions are now 1-3 on the season and were slated to host UC Clermont College on March 5 in a home doubleheader.

The Lions jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 4-2 against the Knights, only to see their NAIA-opponent knot the score at 9-all in the eighth inning. The Lions had also led 9-7, following a five-run. sixth inning. Justin Shelton (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) opened the 10th inning with a single and was replaced with Alley, a pinch runner. Rob Shaw (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) then reached on an infield error, moving Alley to second base and Matt Lakamp (North Bend, OH/Taylor) was intentionally walked, loading the bases and setting the stage for Roberts, who hit a fly ball to center field to end the game.

Drew Ernst (Cincinnati, OH/Elder), who pitched three innings of relief to end the game for the Mount, picked up the win. He was one of four pitchers used in the game by the Lions. Taylor Simpson (Monroe, OH/Monroe) led the 11-hit Mount attack with three hits and two runs scored, while Derek Allen (New Alsace, IN/East Central) and Shaw each collected two hits. Both Shaw and Allen added three RBI each.

The Lions have now played four, one-run games to open the 2013 season.
